On Thursday, June 8 2023, we held the SB 1338: CARE Act Webinar virtually, joining partners, advocates and community members for important updates and discussion around the legislation.
LCHC remains interested in approaching the issue through a harm-reduction lens until we can determine further action. The Webinar was informative helped shed light on the shortcomings of the program. The CARE Act is only one of the initiatives Governor Newsom proposed to address the mental health crisis in California. However, the equity concerns that have surfaced due to the disproportionate impact on communities of color, coupled with the workforce shortages and failure to prioritize long-term housing, bring into question its effectiveness and its ability to adequately address the needs of vulnerable communities. In case you missed it, we encourage you to watch and engage with the materials below.
