LCHC’s Response to White House Expansion of Healthcare Access for DACA Recipients

The Latino Coalition for a Healthy California Applauds the Decision, Urges Biden Administration to Pursuit Definitive Pathway to Citizenship

(Sacramento, CA) –  Today The White House announced that it is moving forward with an initiative to expand access to health insurance for about 100,000 immigrants covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

We wholeheartedly commend President Biden’s pivotal decision to broaden health insurance access for DACA recipients through the ACA. This is a sound decision for the health and economic wellbeing of the nation.

LCHC remains steadfast in its commitment to collaborate with state  and federal partners to ensure effective implementation in our state, as we persist in our mission to extend health coverage to all in California.

We do however, urge the Biden Administration & Congress to create a definitive pathway to citizenship for undocumented Americans, including DACA recipients. Immigration status is a critical determinant of health and providing a pathway to citizenship will ensure we are more fully addressing health inequities across the US.
