LCHC vehemently condemns the heinous act of violence that took place this weekend, on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance against members of our LGBTQIA2S+ community in Colorado Springs, CO. We, the LCHC team, grieve the beautiful lives lost and extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected.
Data shows that hate crimes have reached their peak in over a decade in the United States. Moreover hate crimes against the queer community and specifically transgender individuals continue to increase. Violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity leads to preventable and premature deaths. These violent acts. like mass shootings, are fueled by anti-LGBTQIA2S+ rhetoric and narratives that have become increasingly pervasive in today’s society and especially in our political discourse. Normalizing violent and hateful language towards any group, further incites the type of violence we saw this past weekend. Hate is a disease that we must address to protect the mental, physical, spiritual health, and ultimately the lives of our community members.
LCHC commits to continuing to fight for an inclusive and caring society on all levels to ensure the health and joyful lives of our queer community. To our queer comunidad and loved ones – you are seen and loved.
