Latino Coalition for a Healthy California strongly condemns any actions to end the DACA program.
This week it was reported that the Trump Administration is set to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The Latino Coalition for a Healthy California–representing health care providers, consumers, and advocates through our regional networks across the State–stands in solidarity with all the Dreamers and immigrant rights activists to strongly condemn any actions to end DACA.
Since August 2012, DACA has protected 750,000 youth and young adults with deferments from deportation allowing them to live and work in our communities without fear of deportation. In California, where over 200,000 DACA youth reside, ending DACA would result in the loss of health care coverage for thousands of youth who became eligible for full-scope Medi-Cal. Ending DACA would be detrimental to the progress we’ve made to create inclusive, safe, and healthy communities for all our neighbors.

Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC) – the only statewide organization with a specific emphasis on Latino health – was founded in 1992 by health care providers, consumers and advocates to impact Latino health by focusing on policy development, providing enhanced information and community involvement. Three major functions provide focus to the organization’s work: public policy and advocacy; community education and health equity research. These functions complement LCHC’s work in four key strategic areas: chronic disease prevention, safe communities, health care access, and just immigration reform.
