Health care in the shadow of ICE

In Southern California, those anxieties are likely to intensify in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, which critics say will open the door to widespread racial profiling. On top of that, ICE activity at hospitals and clinics appears to be on the rise, including a widely publicized incident in which officers detained a Honduran man inside a surgical center outside Los Angeles. 

ICE’s visibility at health care sites, said Mar Velez, policy director at the Latino Coalition for Healthy California (LCHC), is

“disrupting the ability for healthcare professionals to do their job and provide care. Their presence creates a lot of anxiety, creates a lot of confusion, causes terror for so many different people.”
