This week, we gathered at the Capitol to reject the proposed Medi-Cal cuts and protect #Health4All.

Dr. Seciah Aquino spoke with Univision about our 10+ year fight for Medi-Cal access—and how these proposed cuts threaten our families and our economy.

“We’re in the fight of our lives. We’ve been fighting for medical care for over 10 years, for those expansions. And the proposals the governor made last week are beyond unfair. We as a community are strong. We help the country, not only with our culture, but with our economy. And these changes would not only harm our health, but also the economy of our families and the state.

And the efforts are to tell the governor and the legislators that this is not fair, that we as a community have to be respected. So we are talking with our legislators, working with the Latino Caucus to say this is not fair.

So today we’re here with other activists, other people who are fighting in the community to prevent these changes. And we’re here to talk about the impact. We’re not asking for anything to be handed to us. We contribute to the economy. Our GDP is 935 billion. We contribute more than 83 billion in taxes. Our undocumented communities contribute so much to our communities. So we need to protect their health because we know that as public health the benefits don’t just stay with the undocumented community, but with families and the entire state. When we’re healthy, the state is healthy.”
