LCHC Statement on Biden Administration Immigration Announcement
We wholeheartedly support the Biden Administration’s new executive actions to keep families together. These executive actions would provide a pathway to citizenship to approximately 500,000 immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens and about 50,000 immigrant youth with a U.S. citizen stepparent. This monumental step forward will not only safeguard the rights and well-being of undocumented individuals and their families but also significantly enhance their access to healthcare. By extending naturalization to these immigrant families, we are reaffirming the United States’ promise to immigrants and fostering a healthier, more inclusive society where everyone can thrive.
Consistent, compassionate policies are the cornerstone of a fair and just society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. This executive action, while a step in the right direction, has the potential to leave families who do not qualify in a perpetual state of uncertainty unless there is comprehensive immigration reform that ensures a humane pathway to citizenship for ALL.
We commend President Biden for this vital action and strongly encourage continued efforts to protect and support immigrant families. Together, we can continue to build a nation that values and uplifts all its residents.
