RE: AB 2042 (Levine): Unaccompanied Children- SUPPORT

Dear Assemblymember Levine,

As someone committed to human rights and health equity, I write to express my strong organizational support for AB 2042 (Levine): Unaccompanied Children, which is an important step towards addressing the current humanitarian crisis faced by migrant children at our border.

As I read the news reports and see images of these children in detention centers, I am compelled to action. These children should be treated with compassion and provided with supports that help to build and maintain their sense of dignity. That is why I strongly support AB 2042, which will provide these children with the hope and stability that they urgently need. These children need to know that they are safe.

I strongly support AB 2042’s provisions that encourage the Federal Government to issue unaccompanied immigrant children a special immigrant juvenile status, asylum, T-visas, or U-visas, and for those who have no parent, relative, or other adult custodian who is able to care for them, a path for incorporating them into California’s foster care system. Finally, I also support the bill’s provision to provide effective and adequate legal representation for all children in the foster care system, including the unaccompanied minors.

I believe that AB2042 is a strong and compassionate response to very tragic events. I thank you for your leadership on this issue and offer my full support on the passage of AB 2042.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
